Update on the everyone belongs Social Brand Campaign
DDRC is excited to announce Darryl and Wanda Sutter as the new Ambassadors of everyone belongs. As parents of a son, Chris, who has a developmental disability, the Sutters have a strong connection to the importance of belonging. DDRC is tremendously grateful to the Sutters for their time, enthusiasm, and commitment to the campaign, and sincerely welcomes them in their new role!
To roll out phase two of the everyone belongs
initiative including celebrity endorsement from the Sutters, DDRC
held a press conference on Wednesday, April 13th in the Leacock Theatre
at Mount Royal College. Highlights of the press conference included
the screening of the new television commercial, Underestimated,
featuring Darryl Sutter, an overview of the campaign from Patty Morris,
executive director of DDRC, and remarks from Darryl and Wanda Sutter
as well as from the president of DDRC’s board of directors, Keith
Seel.
Phase two of the campaign initially focuses on inclusive education,
encouraging educators to consider the inclusion of individuals with
developmental disabilities into regular school settings. Later this
year, a workplace-focused initiative will be deployed, communicating
the benefits of everyone belongs to employers.
Media coverage of the press conference to date includes clips on A
Channel, CFCN, SHAW TV, and articles in both the Calgary Sun, and
the Calgary Herald. The television commercial, Underestimated,
began airing on April 16th, and will run for 12 weeks on CFCN, Global
Television, CBC, and A Channel.
DDRC originally launched the everyone belongs
campaign in May 2003 at Senator Patrick Burns Junior High School,
a Calgary school that welcomes all students, including students with
developmental disabilities into the regular classroom.
everyone belongs is the name of a social
brand campaign conceptualized and initiated by the Developmental
Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary (DDRC) to promote the inclusion
and contribution of all people, including people with developmental
disabilities, in the ordinary stuff of life going to school, working
or volunteering, having friends and a home. We believe that communities
that welcome all citizens are better communities stronger, healthier,
and more vibrant. The everyone belongs social
initiative seeks to change peoples’ minds, attitudes, and behaviours
about those who might be perceived as “different”.
