The Inclusive Schools Initiative project offered three main areas of outcome designed to support schools and staff in building their capacity to teach students with learning disabilities in the regular classrooms. These three areas of focus were:
- Designing Adaptations and Accommodations
- Creating Differentiated Teaching and Learning Experiences for the Success of all students
- Building Inclusive School Climates and Cultures
Three sources of feedback from evaluation sheets and anecdotal comments attested to the satisfaction of both staff and administrators with our efforts over the course of the Initiative:
- Principals reported greater dialogue in the school around professional practice and the improvement of same.
- Teachers told us the recommended strategies were not only working for their hard to engage students but were also having an impact on student achievement of those that might otherwise fall through the cracks in our system.
- Our Area Superintendent commented that requests for special, separate placement of students with complex needs have reduced significantly since the beginning of the project in her area.
