The Inclusive Schools Initiative project offers three main areas of outcome designed to support schools and staff in building their capacity to teach students with learning disabilities in the regular classrooms. These three areas of focus are:
- Designing Adaptations and Accommodations
- Creating Differentiated Teaching and Learning Experiences for the Success of all students
- Building Inclusive School Climates and Cultures
Three sources of feedback from evaluation sheets and anecdotal comments attest to the satisfaction of both staff and administrators with our efforts to date:
- Principals report greater dialogue in the school around professional practice and the improvement of same.
- Teachers tell us the recommended strategies are not only working for their hard to engage students but are also having an impact on student achievement of those that might otherwise fall through the cracks in our system.
- Our Area Superintendent comments that requests for special, separate placement of students with complex needs have reduced significantly since the beginning of the project in her area four years ago.
