There is an exciting partnership that exists in South Calgary Schools. This partnership is between the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre (DDRC) to support the learning and social development of our children.
The DDRC fully funds the services of 2.5 experienced, special needs teachers completely through fund raised dollars and grants under their social marketing brand, "everyone belongs™". The Inclusion Education Facilitators help to support the successful inclusion of students with special needs into their neighborhood schools and regular classrooms.
Inclusion refers to students having the opportunity to learn along side their peers in normal classroom settings. The DDRC teachers provide: professional development for CBE staff, work along side teachers in their classrooms, work directly with students, and work with principals and specialists to support the Calgary Board in providing the best learning experiences for all our children.
Calgary School Board Teachers are expected to meet the learning needs of an increasingly more diverse population of students. This partnership, which has existed for more than 8 years now is one of the innovative ways the board is trying to meet the needs of the students within its care.
