Program Success: Differentiated Teaching and Learning

This aspect of our work has to do with equipping regular classroom teachers and their teaching team with the knowledge and skills to best serve the needs of a diverse student population.

...point out current strengths and areas for growth that can be identified by staff students, parents and support personnel.

A continuum of practices and actions that contribute to the building of an inclusive school environment was developed by the project team and one of our area schools. This continuum is specifically designed to point out current strengths and areas for growth that can be identified by staff students, parents and support personnel.

The project has also designed a computer program to tally and report the results of the inventory to schools who wish to use it for planning growth. This tool has been used to measure current perspectives from one school this year. It will be repeated at the end of the three year cycle to measure change experienced over that time frame.

Planning for Diversity - One school is moving ahead regarding tools for improving school and classroom planning for diversity have been developed by the project team.

Book Studies - three schools are involved in book studies to facilitate classroom support for at risk students.

Workshops - A series of workshops were presented in the fall for teaching teams of assistants and teachers as well as a series for Managing Disruptive Behavior in the Inclusive Classroom.

A school wide Character Education Program was developed to stem the rising incidents of bullying against special needs students.
